֎ 16/06/2024: ATHLETICS STATE LEVEL COMPETITION FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
The Department of Sports,
Youth, and Cultural Activities, along with the Sports Authority of Gujarat
Gandhinagar, organized state-level special athletics competition under the Khel
Mahakumbh. This event was jointly hosted by the District Sports Development office,
Shri Navchetan Andhjan Mandal Madhapar, and Navchetan Divyang Sports and
Cricket Academy at Krishna Sports Ground, Madhapar.
The Khel Mahakumbh featured special competitions across 29 districts in Gujarat, with approximately 450 visually impaired athletes participating. Competitions included events such as the 100-meter run, long jump, shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw for age groups above and below 18.
The competitions commenced with a march past by all participants. The event was officially inaugurated by General Secretary Mr. Laljibhai M. Prajapati, Principal of M.D. School of Education Mr. Himanshubhai Patel and Secretary of the Gujarat State Sports Committee Mr. Dineshbhai Pandya, along with Secretary Mr. Himanshubhai Sompura and Treasurer Mr. Zinabhai Dabasiya, who accepted the torch from a state-level athlete.
Notable attendees included Kutch Morbi MP Mr. Vinodbhai Chavda (elected for a third consecutive term), Kutch District Panchayat President Janaksinh Jadeja, Kutch District BJP President Devjibhai Varchand, Bhuj Taluka Panchayat President Vinodbhai Varsani, Kutch District BJP Vice President Jayantbhai Madhaparia, Sports Development Officer Mrs. Jyotiben Thakur, District Primary Education Officer Shri B.M. Vaghela, and social worker Rameshbhai Ahir Junavas Upsarpanch.
Mr. Vinodbhai Chavda honored the top three players with medals and certificates. In his speech, he shared information about government initiatives and incentive schemes for both disabled and non-disabled athletes, extending his greetings to players from all corners of Gujarat on the soil of Kutch. Mr. Laljibhai M. Prajapati presented Mr. VinodbhaiChavda with a shawl and mementos in recognition of his election.
The event also saw participation from Vice President Mr. Hiralal Chawla, Trustee Mr. Harjibhai Lachhani, Mr. Pravinbhai Khokhani, Mr. Damjibhai Oza, Chief Coordinator Mr. Dipak Prasad, Coordinator Mr. Rashmikantbhai Patel, and Rimaben Bhatia.
The success of the program was made possible through the efforts of Secretary of Divyang Sports & Cricket Academy Mr. Devrambhai Dhila and IEDSS special teachers Shankarbhai Prajapati, Nameshbhai Patel, Vishnudas Dudhrejia, Sandipbhai Trivedi, Pravinsingh Mori, Dilipbhai Pandav, Hiteshbhai Vyas, Principal Rasidbhai Sandhwani, Dakshaben Bhudia, Jalpaben Maru, along with teachers Kailashbhai Maru, Kalpeshbhai Patel, Niravbhai Dake, and the entire staff from the Hostel and kitchen department.
Administrative work such as registration, travel arrangements, scorekeeping, and entry management were efficiently handled by Kasturban Bhudia, Manishaben Gorasia, Lataben Varsani, Jagdishbhai Rabari, Bhartiben Chavda, Krishnaben Hirani from the sports office Govindbhai Bharwad, Parasbhai Chaudhary, Ravibhai Zhampa, and Bhimbhai Bapodara. B.Ed students from M.D. College of Education and disabled students from Navchetan Andhjan Mandal Madhapar played a commendable role throughout theevent.
